Letter from the Legislative Committee

Members of Local 7270:

Tony Howe and Andy Lucas attended the National Legislative Conference in Washington DC during the month of June. We have enclosed a Legislative Update citing issues that were discussed during our visit to the offices of our members of Congress. This update is also available on our CWA Local 7270 web page www.cwa7270.org for your review (appears under the “Legislative” Heading).

We are writing this letter in order to solicit your support as to the contacting of our respective members of Congress on an issue that is of the utmost importance, “Healthcare Reform”. Healthcare as we know it today has become the biggest issue and the biggest financial drain on families and on businesses alike. Over the past ‘9’ years “Employer-sponsored” health insurance premiums have double, this is a rate 3 times faster than the average wage increase over the same time period. The United State spent $2.2 trillion on health care in 2007 or about $7,420 for every person in this country. Americans spend more on health care, on average, than on housing or food. If the rapid health care cost growth continues, the Congressional Budget Office estimates that by the year 2025, one out of every four dollars in our national economy will be tied up in the health care system.

We have enclosed a sample letter that you can send to both of your US Senators (Franken and Klobucher) and also a sample letter that you can send to your representative in the US House. We have asked that both of these sample letters also appear under the “Legislative” Heading on our local’s web page. If these letters meet your approval feel free to “copy & paste” and send a E-Mail, or fax a copy, or send via the US Mail, please remember to include your name and address at the bottom of all letters sent and also the senator or representative name at the beginning. Please feel free to research this issue yourself and convey in you own words your thoughts and feelings. The time to act is now!!!! Please support us in this effort.
